The old search engine tricks that once worked well simply no longer work. The indices have become immensely complex and rely on what is called Latent Semantic Indexing or LSI. The result is that quality content is what is most rewarded by the search engine indices. The black hat techniques of old will only get you banned. Hence we have seen the rise of article marketing and the creation of short articles as they key to optimizing websites now and probably well into the future. Continue reading →

Article marketing has evolved on the internet in response to the simultaneous development of search engine technologies. The old search engine tricks that once worked well simply no longer work. The indices have become immensely complex and rely on what is called Latent Semantic Indexing or LSI. Without getting too scientific, it basically involves a complex set of algorithms that emulate the thought processes of humans in the way they categorize information. The result is that quality content is what is most rewarded by the search engine indices. The black hat techniques of old will only get you banned. Hence we have seen the rise of article marketing and the creation of short articles as they key to optimizing websites now and probably well into the future.

These short articles are then published in an “article directory”. Authors can post their works completely free of charge. The directory owner of the said article directory typically places each article in a category relevant to a certain product, service or area of interest. They derive revenue through numerous methods including Google adsense or other forms of advertising and promotion enabling people that search for similar products to hit the results of these article directories whenever these searchers engage in the act of searching of any form of product, good or service available on the internet.

These articles are also made available to blogs, directories, email lists and website owners to publish or distribute to their clients and users in their respective market niches. Each short article contains information relevant to a particular market niche, and usually is targeted at a relatively small number of “keywords”. The keywords form the basic theme of the article with the purpose of narrowing down the appeal of the article to a that particular niche. Typically the articles include a small resource box with references to the author and the websites they promote in that niche. Most article directories allow this resource box to provide an incentive for article publishers to share their work.

There are numerous benefits to Article Marketing apart from simply getting backlinks to your website. The articles themselves are almost always targeted at a narrow audience hence they have the potential to deliver buyers to your website, buyers actively seeking to buy the sort of products you are promoting. With this type of well targeted traffic you can typically expect to get very high conversion rates of visitors to sales. As every marketer knows at the end of the day it is all about numbers. The more targeted traffic you have the more sales you will make. The more targeted that traffic is the more your traffic will convert into buyers. As with any form of marketing there is a downside, and these can be defined as the amount of resources you have to invest initially in terms of time and resources and the delays involved in submitting articles and waiting for them to be indexed by search engines and actually delivering the traffic to your website. On the upside it is well recognized that articles can deliver traffic for years after their submission.
